Quote from WRFD401 Ray on November 5, 2026, 12:21 pmIf you'd like, here are some customizations that I do (mostly in /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf).
I leave it up to you if you want to document them on your https://newenglandgmrs.com/connecting-allstar-3-stock-image/ page.
Announce local IP address on startup / boot
- In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
- In the ;; Control operator (cop) section, add a line: `9007 = cmd,/usr/bin/asl-say -n 1999 -w ip4` -- where you replace 1999 with the actual node number
- In [10521](node-main) section add, `startup_macro = *9007`
Autoconnect to 7000 on startup / boot
- In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
- Uncomment `813 - ilink,13` line
- In [10521](node-main) section add, `startup_macro = *8137000`
- To announce IP address and autoconnect: `startup_macro = *9007*8137000`
Turn off morse code announcement
- In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
- In [10521](node-main) section, change line to `idrecording=`
Add a macro to announce time locally on the hour
- In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
- In the [macro] section, add a a line: `1 = *712` (where the initial 1 is the macro number)
- In the [schedule] section, add a line: `1 = 00 * * * *` (where the initial 1 is the macro number)
Reboot once a week
- In /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
- In the ;; Control operator (cop) section, add a line: `9006 = cmd,/usr/sbin/reboot`
- In the [macro] section, add a line: `2 = *9006` (where 2 is the macro number)
- In the [schedule] section, add a line: `2 = 00 03 * * 1` (where 2 is the macro number)
Install btop (a favorite of mine) (just in a shell -- not rpt.conf)
- sudo apt update
- sudo apt install btop
I hope that this is helpful.
Best regards,
Geof
